Shamlaji is a prominent Hindu place of worship, which is located in the Aravali district of Indian state of Gujarat. The Shamlaji temple, which is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, was constructed during the 11th century in Chalukya styles of architecture. This shrine is regarded as one of the top three temples of Lord Vishnu in the state of Gujarat. Shamlaji is considered as one of the favorites amongst the archaeologists owing to its majestic grandeur and simplicity. Lord Vishnu portrayed Bala Gopal is the primary idol which is worshipped here. It is regarded as the only temple in India where cow idols are also worshipped along with the main idol of Lord Vishnu. The cow idols represent the early childhood days of Lord Vishnu as a cowherd. Shamlaji is listed amongst one hundred and fifty-four prominent Hindu places of worship in India.
HOW TO REACH
By Road: – Tourists who prefer to travel by road may hire a private bus from Ahmedabad and Himmatnagar. There are private buses which ply regularly between these two places. The total distance taken to travel from either of these places to reach Shamlaji temple is about one hundred and thirty kilometers and the overall time taken to reach Shamlaji temple is about 2 hours. All the private buses travel via NH48.
By Rail: – Those individuals who wish to travel by train may head straight to Ahmadabad railway station which is located at Lalpur in Gujarat. There is a direct train which is available from Ahmadabad railway station to Shamlaji head railway station. It is one of the safest and cheapest options to reach Shamlaji. The total time taken to travel from Ahmadabad Railway Station to reach Shamlaji is about 3 hours and 55 minutes.
